Our story

A pantry born from the heart of a classroom.

Melton Montessori Early Learning Centre has always taught that care is the first lesson. The Community Pantry is how we carry that lesson into the wider community.

What began as a small food drive at Melton Montessori ELC has grown into a permanent community pantry & foodshare — fully funded by the centre and supported by families, educators and local partners.

We saw families in our own community quietly struggling with the rising cost of living, and we knew our values asked more of us than awareness. So we built a space where anyone can walk in and find what they need: fresh food, pantry staples, clothing and household essentials — offered with the same respect we'd want for ourselves.

The pantry is staffed by volunteers and ELC team members. Every dollar raised, every tin donated and every hour given goes directly back into shelves stocked for the people of Melton.

Values we live by

Dignity

Everyone who walks in is met without judgement and without barriers.

Care

Care for the child, the family, the neighbour, and the earth that sustains us.

Community

We grow stronger when we look after each other — across every culture and circumstance.

Learning

The Montessori belief that compassion is taught — and shown — every day.

Funded by Melton Montessori

Where the funding comes from.

Melton Montessori ELC commits a portion of its annual operating budget directly to the Community Pantry. This covers premises, utilities, refrigeration, transport and day-to-day running costs — meaning 100% of public donations go to food and goods for families.

We also partner with Foodbank Victoria, OzHarvest and local businesses who donate fresh produce, bakery items and shelf-stable groceries every week.
